Chapter 17

"Did you like the movie?" I asked Shayla holding her hand as we exited the building.

"It was great actually. That part when Darth Vader told Luke he was his father and Luke was like 'noooo' had me weak!" She laughed. "Did you like it?"

"From what I was paying attention to, I actually liked it," I said as I opened her door to the car.

"Well, what parts did you actually pay attention to?"

"Oh, I don't remember. The 'Luke, I am your father' part was pretty deep. I didn't expect that." I said with my best attempt at Darth Vader.

"That big crash scared the mess out of me!"

I rolled my eyes, "it sure did shock me." That crash ruined my chance of kissing her.

"You owe me a Snicker bar," she smirked.

"How come?"

"Because you took half of mine."

"Well..."

"You owe me, Michael."

"I'll think about it."

"Think about it?" She folded her arms.

"You know, you're cute when you're mad."

"Don't try to change the subject."

"I'm not," I laughed.

"Yes, you are."

"No, I'm not." Shayla stuck her tongue out at me. I gasped, "did you just stick your tongue out at me?"

"Yes. I. Did." She did it again.

"Uh oh..."

"What do you mean, 'uh oh?'"

"Uh oh..."

"What?"

"Uh oh..." I shook my head.

"What does that mean?"

I smiled, "oh nothing."

"It must mean something."

"Maybe it does. Maybe it doesn't," I shrugged.

"You play too much!"

"We're home," I called as Shayla and I walked in the house.

"No! Stop, Toy!" We heard Janet scream from upstairs.

"They must be having a tickle fest," I told Shayla as I went up to Janet's room.

"Michael, run before she gets you too!" Janet laughed.

"Where's mom and Joseph?"

"They went out for dinner," LaToya replied.

"Well, that's good to hear."

"Hey, Shayla," LaToya said. "If Michael ever does something stupid, you get me or Janet. Heck even both of us. We'll straighten him out real good," she pointed at me.

"Yeah, Shayla. We'll tickle him until he knows how to treat a lady," Janet chimed in.

"I doubt Michael will do anything stupid," Shayla looked at me.

"Well, just in case. You know where we are."

"Gotcha," Shayla laughed and made her way to her room.

"Oh, yeah. Like I'd treat Shayla wrong," I sat on Janet's bed.

"You never know," LaToya shrugged. "How was your movie date?"

"It was great."

"What happened??"

"Well, we watched the movie. I ate half of her Snickers, so now for some reason she thinks I owe her a Snickers. Oh! And I almost kissed her."

"You almost kissed her?!" LaToya and Janet asked.

"Um, yeah..."

"Oh, my goodness! Why didn't you?" LaToya asked.

"When I was about to, a loud noise came from the movie and she wanted to see what happened. Thus, my chance at actually kissing her went up in smoke."

"Aww, Mikey!"

"It's nothing. I'll try some other time."

"Before she goes back to Ohio?"

"Of course."

"Good! Wait a minute, Sherlock! Have you asked her out yet?"

"No..."

"Well, you have to ask her out before you kiss her!"

"Says who?"

"It's common sense."

"I'll ask her when the time is right. Trust me." I told them as I made my way to Shayla's room. I knocked on the door, "can I come in?"

"Sure thing," she replied.

I opened the door, "what are you up to?"

"Writing."

"Writing what?"

"About my day."

"You have a diary?"

"No... I don't like to call it that. That's too girly. I call it my journal, like Matt does. My mother got this for me when I was nine. I've been writing in it since I was ten."

"It's huge!"

"I know, right?" She laughed.

"Do you ever read the whole thing?"

"Yeah, I was a funny little girl."

"I bet."

"Do you write?"

"If you count writing music..."

"Of course. It's still expressing yourself."

"So then yeah, I've been writing music."

"Am I able to read some sometime?"

"Sure."

"Awesome! When can we go to the roof?"

"When everyone is home. If we go up there now and Mother and Joseph see us up there, they'll flip."

"Oh... I understand."

"I've never been caught before. Well, almost, but I got down in time."

"You must have been scared, huh?"

"No. I actually wondered what would happen. Luckily, nothing happened at all."

"That's good. Hey, where's Randy?"

"Michael!" Randy shouted from the hallway.

"There he goes," I rolled my eyes. "I'll be back."
