Chapter 2
I was glad I had someone in my next class who I knew. Well partially. At least he was in my class.
“Why did your parents decide to name you ‘Harmony?’” He asked me as we went to our lockers.
“I don’t know. My mom said she always wanted to name her daughter that.”
“Well, I think it’s very pretty.”
“Thank you,” I blushed. No one has ever told me my name was pretty before.
“Did you meet the principal?” Michael asked as we walked in class.
“No-”
“Harmony!” A teacher smiled and hugged me. What is going on?
“Um, hi…” I hugged her back.
“I’m Mrs. Robert. You have grown so much! Do you remember me?” The weird teacher asked.
“Uh, no.”
“I was your nanny back when you were in China. But when you grew up, I quit. It was the best choice.”
“Still don’t remember you.”
“Well, I’m super glad to have you back. Sit anywhere you want.”
Why am I getting these privileges? What has my dad done?
“Come sit over here,” Michael instructed me I’m glad one person is being nice to me. Otherwise, I would be a longer.
I sit in the seat behind him and put down my things.
“Why don’t you sit beside me?”
“Oh,” I say and move to the seat beside him.
“So, what part of New York did you live in?” He smiled and turned to face me.
“Beautiful Manhattan.”
“I’ve been to Manhattan a bunch of times. I wonder why I haven’t seen you.”
“Maybe because I only lived there for two months?”
“Oh, the last two months?”
“Yeah. Were you there the last two months?”
“I was in New York City just for a week last month.”
“Why?”
“I had a concert to do with my brothers.”
“A concert?” I ask. “What do you mean a concert?”
“We did a concert in Madison Square Park.”
“Why for charity or something?”
“You have heard about the Victory Tour right?”
“Yeahhh…”
“Well, that’s the concert.”
“I went to see one. What are you implying?” I asked.
“I’m Michael Jackson, Harmony,” he laughed.
“The Michael Jackson?” How come I didn’t notice?! Gosh, I feel like such a dumbass.
“Yes. Haha!” He laughs even harder. I turn red of embarrassment.
“Don’t feel bad, Harmony. I’m glad you didn’t know who I really was. Because you would probably be like Rebecca and every other girl in this school.”
“How’s that?”
“They’re only nice to me because of who I am.”
“Oh, I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. I’m used to it by now. Would you like to sit with me at lunch?”
“Sure. It would be better than sitting alone.” I say and turn around to face the teacher. I feel his eyes on me as I face the front. I don’t know what to think until I see from the corner of my eye that he smiles and finally turns around.
He’s cute and he has a pretty smile, but hey, there is no way that I can get with him with Rebecca all on his dick.
“Class, we have a new student,” Mrs. Robert beamed. “Come up here and introduce yourself, please.”
I walked up to the front of the class. “Hi, I’m Harmony.”
“Tell them about yourself,” Michael smiled.
I looked at him and blushed. “Um, I was born and partially raised in China and my dad is next in line for CEO of a big Chinese company,” I say and sit down.
Mrs. Robert takes my spot in the front of the class. “I don’t know if everyone knows yet. All the teachers have been talking about it. But Harmony is also the granddaughter of the founder of this school, and we as staff have been waiting for this day since she was born.”
That’s what all the fuss was about? I thought it was something special.
Her grandfather is Dr. C.M. Jacobs. He passed, but we thank him dearly.”
“You didn’t tell me your grandfather founded this school,” Michael whispered.
“I didn’t know,” I whispered back.
“And being the granddaughter of the founder of this school and my godchild, I do expect a good student,” Mrs. Robert said and looked at me.
*After Class*
“What class do you have now?” Michael asked and took the folder out of my hands. “Music? Aren’t you lucky?”
“How?”
“You have another class with me.” He smiled one of his pretty smiles.
“I guess I am lucky, aren’t I? Why is it that you’re being nice to me and walking with me like we’re best friends?” I wonder. I hope that didn’t sound rude.
“Do you not want me to?”
“I do. It’s just that I want to know. No one’s ever done this before.” I defend myself.
“I’m just that nice guy that no one can find anymore.” Michael says as he leans on my locker.
I smile, “excuse me,” I say and punch my locker. It doesn’t open and I realize how bad it hurts. Michael laughs at me and punches it. “It’s not funny,” I say and put my new text book in. “Where’s the music room?”
“Follow me,” I do so and we end up in front of a black door.
“Why is the door black? Where is the window? Is this even the music room?” I ask and try to look past him as he blocks the door.
“Yes, it is,” he laughs and opens the door. I see all the instruments and the desks form a circle.
“Michael, I’m glad to see you. You’re early to… Is it really?” The music teacher asks as I walk in.
“Yes, it’s her, Mr. Staton,” Michael smiles as I walk through the door.
“Um, hi. I’m Harmony-”
“Jacobs. I know. Your grandfather was the best person to walk this earth,” Mr. Staton says as he shakes me hand. “The curriculum and how he set this school up is unthinkable.”
Jeez. I wish I met my grandfather.
