Chapter 42

(Shayla)

I work up in Michael’s arms. Last night was fun. We watched scary movies, ate smores and popcorn. I love Michael so much. He’s everything I’ve ever wanted in a man. I turned around and noticed he was still sleeping. He’s so cute when he sleeps. I slowly got up, being careful not to wake him and went to my room. What’s there to do on a Saturday? I chose mom jeans and a black cropped sweater and went to take a shower. I hope Michael doesn’t wake up yet. I want to make him breakfast… Well, to the best of my ability. After I got dressed, I put my hair in a ponytail and went downstairs. Luckily, Michael is asleep or at least I think so. I’m sure he’s still quite the prankster. I remember he’s a vegetarian, so I won’t any meat. I’ll just make some oatmeal. After I got everything together, I walked back to the living room to find Michael waking up. “Good morning,” I smiled.

“Good morning,” he stretched.

“How did you sleep?” I asked.

“I slept pretty well, considering I had you in my arms.”

I sat in front of him, “I made some oatmeal. I hope you like it.” He grabbed his bowl and started to eat. “What do you want to do today?”

“I’m not sure. As long as I’m with you, I honestly don’t care what we do.”

“Well, in that case, I’ve got a surprise for ya. After you finish your oatmeal, we’ll go out.”

“Sounds like a plan,” he continued to eat. “You look beautiful by the way.” Once we were done, we washed our bowls and I accidently splashed Michael. “Hey!” He laughed and splashed me in the face.

I gasped, “I swear it was an accident!” I splashed him back.

“Yeah right!”

“Go take a shower, stinky,” I stuck my tongue out at him.

“You’re stinky,” he poked my arm.

“I took a shower, you didn’t, Mr. Stinkypants.”

He shrugged, “you still stink.”

“Go take a shower, Michael,” I laughed, pushing him as he made his way upstairs. I finished the dishes and went back into the living room to watch tv. As soon as I sat down, the phone rang. I got up to answer it, “hello?”

“Shayla, is David there? It’s Matt,” Matt replied.

“Hey! No, he’s with Tess. What’s up?”

“Dang, really? Never mind. What are you up to? Lesson plans?”

“I’m actually hanging out with Michael,” I smiled.

“Mike’s there? Good! Let me speak to him.”

“He’s in the shower.”

“And you’re not in there with him?”

I gasped, “Matt!”

He laughed, “I’m kidding. Did you all get everything straightened everything out?”

“Obviously,” I rolled my eyes.

“Well, excuse me. Just so you know, I’m the one who is responsible for your reconnection. So, you should be thanking me instead of sassing me.”

“You’re right… Matt, I have to tell you something. Promise me you won’t tell anyone though. I want to tell everyone myself.”

“Oh, God. You’re pregnant, aren’t you? Damn it! I told Mike I didn’t want to be an uncle yet.”

“Matt, I am not pregnant,” I rolled my eyes.

“Thank God!”

“We’re actually getting married.”

He jovial voice, suddenly turned serious, “seriously?”

“Yeah… Why do you sound so serious all of a sudden?”

“How did that happen so quickly? Y’all just reconnected.”

“He said he didn’t want to lose me again, so I agreed to marry him.”

“Wow…”

I made a face, “aren’t you supposed to be happy for me? Why do you sound so disappointed?”

“I’m not, Shayla. It’s just that you’re my little sister and you’re getting married. It’s just… I don’t really know how to explain it.”

“So, you’re happy for me?”

“Of course, I am, Shay. I’m ecstatic.”

I frowned, “you sure don’t sound like it.”

“Trust me, Shayla. I am happy for you. When you tell dad, tell me how it goes.”

“Sure, but why?”

“Because it’s dad. Sometimes it’s hard for a father to give his daughter away. You’re still his little girl, so he’s probably going to take it hard.”

I sighed, “do you think it’s a bad idea that I’m getting married?”

“No. Of course not. You’ll always be my little sister, Shayla and I love you. Is Michael out yet? I want to talk to him.”

“Hold on. Michael?” I called.

“Yes?” He called back.

“Are you ready?” I asked. He came running down wearing a red shirt and black slacks. “You like nice today!” I smiled.

“Thanks,” he sat beside me.

“Matt wants to talk to you,” I gave the phone to him, to which he kissed me. “Ooo, give me another one,” I smiled. He kissed me again and started talking to Matt.

“Hey, Matt… Thanks…” Matt and Michael get along so well, but who knows what Matt is saying to him. I listened as Michael told Matt how he proposed twice. “Matt told me to tell you to go to your room.”

I made a face, “why?”

“He wants to tell me some things.”

“I’m not moving,” I protested.

“She says she’s not moving… No! I’m not going to kick her off!”

I took the phone from Michael, “Matt, I don’t care what you tell him, I’m not moving.” I told him and gave the phone back.

“She’s not stubborn,” Michael told him.

“I am not stubborn! Fine, I’ll leave, but I’m only getting-”

“Stay here,” Michael mouthed as he pulled me back to him. What could they possibly be talking about?

“Don’t say that about your sister… Hey, that’s my fiancée you’re talking about… You’re a mess,” he laughed. I could hear Matt laughing loudly. “Okay. I’ll talk to you later. Here Shayla,” he gave the hone back to me.

“What were you all laughing about?” I asked Matt.

“Nothing… Hey, whenever David gets back, make sure he calls me. I have to tell him something.”

“Well, what is it?”

“Nothing for your virgin ears.”

I rolled my eyes, “in case you haven’t noticed, I am grown.”

“Well, you’ll always be younger than me. There’s no changing that, little girl. Toodles,” he hung up.

“So, what was the surprise you wanted to show me?” Michael asked.

“Oh, yeah! Come on!” I stood up and grabbed his hand, pulling him to the door.

“Hold on, I have to get my hat,” he rushed upstairs. Once he came back, I stood at the door with my keys in hand.

“Ready?”

“Yeah, let’s go,” I unlocked the door to find Byron getting ready to knock.
